Since 2022, I have painted circles that represent flora, weather and environmental conditions that I have observed. When I am looking at plants or clouds close to my body or far away, I vary my focus between the object and the atmosphere in between. Relying on memory and occasionally on photographs, I paint circles in varying opacity and colors to re-create the objects, atmospheres (both clear and hazy) I witnessed at a specific moment. Memory and time serve as solipsistic media of my process where the momentary remembrances gradually lose certainty in my mind. For the paintings titled for a specific season, I write a list of plants, organic matter with their referential colors that I observed during spring, for example, willing the experience into posterity through paint and explanation. The lists are exhibited as handwritten texts mounted alongside the paintings and include the paintings’ tombstone didactics. In seeing, painting and handwriting, I reinforce my desire to maintain an analog creative relationship with my works.
